overview
down south word of mouth is an organization that provides workshops to marginalized members of the central texas community. they believe in the benefits of storytelling to help foster self-awareness and compassion while giving a voice to those who are often voiceless. writing forward is a nine week program created by dswm specifically for veterans to process their trauma through critical reading and writing, and each one-week section of this workbook consists of either stories and lessons or journaling prompts.

goal & approach
with their audience in mind, dswm wanted a straightforward yet non-oppressive layout for writing forward. stories were formatted into easy-to-digest columns, and images and custom icons were added for more visual interest throughout the workbook. this book was printed, bound and used in the program beginning in march 2021.
